Jamu recipe: Indonesian elixir of life

  • 25g of turmeric, ideally fresh or powdered (organic)
  • 50g ginger, ideally fresh – or powdered (organic)
  • 1 onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 L of mineral water
  • 2 teaspoon of organic lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons of agave syrup (or honey for non-vegans)
  • 2 teaspoons of archi'v cider vinegar
  • 1 pinch of black pepper

Add the turmeric, ginger, onion and garlic (finely peeled) black pepper and water to a blender and blend until smooth.
Pour everything into a saucepan and bring to the boil. Leave to simmer over low heat for 10 minutes. Add the lemon juice, agave syrup and archi'v cider vinegar. Stir. Pass the mixture through a sieve then once cooled, pour into a glass bottle and place in the fridge.
